John Bailey – The Kingfisher Diaries

Changes Afoot
First of all, I'd like to inform the world that I'm a very important person now. Just a few days ago, I was contacted by the International Game Fish Association in Florida. A letter informed me that my catch had been awarded the All Tackle Line Class World Record. I have a certificate, a very handsome one indeed, proclaiming that I am actually the world champion at catching roach-bream hybrids! My lifetime's ambition has now been achieved and if I wanted to, I could retire from fishing altogether with my head held high. Not for me record barbel, carp or roach. No, I'm a hybrid man through and through. So the next time we meet on the bank, I expect to be treated with renewed respect!
This piece, in truth, is for the Kingfisher syndicate members and, for our guests in the apartments of course. We're going flat out in these cold, bleak months to improve the fishery and make it better for all concerned.
We're aiming to repair the toilet block and put it on the apartment cleaning rota so that it is always fragrant! We're also building a conservatory on the side of the block and adding a few table and benches thereto so that carp anglers and holiday makers can enjoy the spectacular views the lake affords.
This is very much a plea to the carp anglers to understand that any guests that go into the sanctuary will be expected to totally respect the quietness and serenity of this lovely area. We are not allowing games, swimming, shouting or anything that is going to disturb the peace for all concerned.
Whilst we're at it, we are also professionally going to repair all the swims that are at present unsightly and difficult to fish from. This work will be starting in a couple of weeks or so and any of the carp team who find themselves around the lake are very welcome indeed to give their views and offer advice.
Further, we have in mind plans to continue stocking the major lake on a steady, trickle basis throughout 2010. We've taken advice from some of the carp syndicate and we are hoping to introduce another thirty to fifty double figure fish. But again, I'll be on the complex far more frequently now the days are drawing out and I'm back from India and any views you've got, don't hesitate to pass them on to me.
And if he's reading this, Mr. Germain, could we have one or two more pieces from you. Mick, I personally really miss your carp updates, tips and advice. If any of the other carp boys out there are reading this, send your stuff into me too, and we can really build the carping side of the website into something serious.
