A Bit of a Breather

Can I say a real thank you to those of you that have become avid followers of the Kingfisher Diary? It's great to know that you're not totally alone out there! I'm afraid to say that we all need a bit of a break and the next time you'll be hearing from Kingfisher, catching up on the news, will be late into September. Holiday and filming a new angling series mean I'm just going to be on the road for the next two weeks or so.

Autumn seems to have come early as I write. Cold winds, cold rain and brown leaves falling in a ferocious wind. Still, the season has got a lot to offer. Could be we can squeeze in a bit of last of the year tenching on the big lake again. It would be great to see exactly how the tench are preparing for the winter. I'm sure Mick Germain will have a lot more to say about autumn carp fishing, too.  And if the lakes clear out a little bit and water visibility improves, then no doubt we'll get some pike on the lure once more.

The river, too, has been desperately low and clear for the last eight weeks. The increasing stretch of rain might well start to see it rise and colour and those chub and roach may well become a little more approachable. As for the barbel, I'm not even going there. After a summer of intermittent attempts for them with next to no success, I'm rethinking my whole approach.

Also, when life calms down a little bit in the autumn, we at Kingfishers want to make a positive stand on the otter front. Certainly so when it comes to the river. Where, incidentally, I saw two adult otters harrying a shoal of chub just the other day.

So, all in all, the big run up before Christmas looks like being an exciting one. Bear with us and hopefully we'll enjoy and autumn and winter of real excitement together.
